Early Riser Key
Please note that the availability of Early Riser keys is strictly controlled.
We are pleased to announce that the City of Cape Town has agreed to allow the continued use of the “early riser key” system that allows registered key holders to enter the Helderberg Nature Reserve ahead of normal opening times in the morning. This privilege is available only to members of the Friends of Helderberg Nature Reserve and it is subject to compliance with a new set of terms and conditions.(More information regarding these is available at the Information Centre.)
The process of issuing keys will be administered by the Friends on behalf of the City. The authorities are very concerned about security in the reserve and all participants in the scheme are asked to adhere strictly to the conditions of use so that incidents of trespass and misuse of the keys are avoided. The keys are not transferrable and under no circumstances are they to be used after closing time in the evening.
Members wishing to obtain an early riser key should call at the Information Centre, open daily from 10:00 to 14:00, complete and sign an application form agreeing to the terms and conditions and pay the fee of R 250 although existing registered users will receive a R50 discount upon return of their numbered key when applying for a new one. The new Keys will be valid from 1 May 2014 to 30 April 2015. Applicants should bring their Friends membership cards and ID numbers with them.
Usage of keys issued last year will expire on 30 April 2014. Any members who have out-of-date keys are asked to please return these to the Information Centre as soon as possible.
