Guided walks are held frequently throughout the year. Information walks are held monthly – usually on a Sunday morning. Guided hikes take place on the second Saturday of each month. Night walks also take place, but not as regularly.
This is essential and a nominal booking fee, payable in advance, will be charged for all walks. To book and obtain your ticket you will need to call at the Information Centre in the reserve open daily from 10:00 to 14:00. Non-members will also be required to pay the normal entry fee to the reserve. Please note that, at this stage, bookings may not be made telephonically or on line. Booking opens on 7 September.
The two fynbos walks and the night walks will be led by Andreas Groenewald, while the bird walk will led by a member of the Somerset West Bird Club.
Programme of walks for the upcoming three months is as follows:
Interpretative Day Walks
These will be held on the last Sunday of the month, commencing from the Oak Café in the reserve at 08:00 and will last approximately 2 hours. Dates and themes are:

Walks will be in the lower garden of the reserve and therefore not strenuous. You are nevertheless advised to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water to drink.
The charge for the walk will be R20 for adults and R10 for scholars. Non-members will also be required to pay the normal entry fee to the reserve on the day of the walk.. Booking for the day walks closes at 12 noon on the day before.
Should the walk have to be cancelled due to weather conditions, or for any other reason, you will be advised via an SMS or phone call on the day prior to the walk. Your booking fee will be refunded on presentation of the ticket at the Information Centre.
These will be held on the Saturday closest to the new or full moon. Walks will start from the entrance to the reserve at 20:00 – the walks will start promptly at 20:15. Cars may be parked inside. Dates are:

Walks will be in the lower area of the reserve. Comfortable walking shoes are advised and, most important, participants are asked to bring a torch with them.
The charge for night walks is as follows.
Members: Adults R20 Scholars R10
Non-members: Adults R35 Pensioners R30 Scholars R20 (This includes the entry fee to the reserve on the night.)
As these walks have proved popular in the past, it is recommended that you book early.

These walks are guided by two experienced hikers. All walks start from the kiosk near the restaurant in the reserve. No booking, as such, is required. However, to assist with arrangements, please let the Information Centre know if you are planning to join the walk.
Please note: In the event of bad weather, the walks will be deferred to the following week, starting at the same time as scheduled.
Appropriate hiking gear is essential, particularly in winter. Guides may refuse to allow persons to join the hike if clothing or footwear are not suitable.
It is essential to carry at least 1 litre of water.
