The Sunset Concerts
Now in its 17th year, the Sunset Concerts series provides great entertainment on Sunday evenings in the Helderberg Nature Reserve , whilst providing a major source of funding for the conservation work of the Friends of Helderberg Nature Reserve.
This year sees another exciting and diverse programme of entertainers with a series of 7 concert events scheduled through December, January and February.
The season gets under way in great style on Sunday 6 December when the hugely popular SA Navy Band will be on stage with a large contingent of musicians including members of the Field Artillery Pipe Band.
As the season progresses the diversity of Africa will bring reggae style music by Afro Fiesta from the DRC through to folk rock from Valiant Swart directly from the Boland!
All concerts start at 5.30 pm but visitors can arrive and find their places from 3.30 pm onwards. The costs are R 60 for Adults and R30 for Scholars from 5 to 18. Under 5s have free entry. Here below is full line up for the season:
|6 Dec||Spectacular musical presentations across diverse genres ranging from military music to big band jazz.
Unfortunately the Navy Band will be on duty in Durban and has had to cancel this concert.
|20 Dec||Afro Fiesta||This dynamic Congolese band is based in Cape Town and brings us the lively rhythms of West Africa Their music is a fusion of various styles including Latin, African, Salsa, Reggae and Kwasa-Kwasa!|
|3 Jan||The Jesse Jordan Band||Jesse returns with his band for another celebration of his birthday with a concert of vibrant rock and smooth ballads. Last year’s concert was a huge success and the band is still growing in popularity.|
|17 Jan||Blacksmith||The famous folk music group makes a welcome return to entertain all ages with Country and Irish, English and Scottish music.|
|31 Jan||Shiraz||No introductions needed. We are delighted to welcome back Shiraz for another celebration of great songs from past decades. Expect another party event!|
|14 Feb||Morning Ms Dednam||After the success of their concert last year we look forward to more from Emma, Justin, Trent and Kenan. The band creates smooth rock songs with jazz infusions. Ideal for Valentine’s Day!|
|28 Feb||Valiant Swart||We are delighted to welcome the well-known Afrikaans folk rock singer/songwriter, recording artist and actor from Stellenbosch. Valiant writes and sings in both English and Afrikaans with genres described as alternative rock and sometimes punk rock.|
